Lifting Alone May Not Address Every Sign of Facial Ageing, Says ClearSK

ClearSK doctors explain why tissue laxity and facial volume loss are different concerns needing different treatment approaches after individual assessment.

The clinic says consultations increasingly involve patients asking whether one treatment can address multiple visible signs of facial ageing. Doctors note that lifting and volume loss are different anatomical concerns and are assessed separately before any treatment plan is discussed.

"Facial ageing doesn't always present as one concern. Facial ageing involves two distinct and independent processes: (1) the gradual loss of tension in deeper tissue layers, which may cause softening and descending of the jawline and lower face, and (2) the depletion of fat compartments and collagen scaffolding beneath the skin, which may cause the cheeks and temples to appear flatter or less defined. These are separate concerns with different anatomical origins, and a doctor may consider addressing both within the same care plan where clinically appropriate.

Korean HIFU uses high-intensity focused ultrasound designed to deliver targeted energy to deeper tissue layers, including the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system), the structural layer that supports the skin and underlying tissue. This is designed to stimulate a collagen response that may contribute to gradual tissue tightening over time. Korean HIFU is designed to work on tissue structure and does not restore lost facial volume.

Volume-restoring filler approaches generally fall into two categories: collagen-stimulating injections, which are designed to prompt the body's own collagen production and may build gradual structural support over a series of sessions, and dermal fillers, which are designed to restore volume more directly by placing a biocompatible gel material at the treatment site. Both approaches address facial volume and shape rather than tissue laxity or structural descent, and the appropriate choice depends on an individual's presentation and treatment goals.

Tissue laxity and volume loss are independent concerns, but some patients present with both at the same time. Because tissue laxity and volume loss are separate concerns, addressing one does not necessarily address the other. Where both are identified during assessment, a doctor may discuss whether different treatment approaches should be considered as part of the same treatment plan.
