Bomb Scare at Australian PM’s Residence Traced to Hoax Chinese Dance Troupe

(MENAFN) Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was temporarily relocated from his official residence in Canberra on Tuesday after authorities responded to a bomb threat reportedly connected to a Chinese performing arts group, according to reports released Wednesday.
The troupe, Shen Yun—which is prohibited from performing in China—has plans to hold several shows across Australia in the near future.

As stated by reports, local organizers affiliated with Shen Yun received an email alleging that explosive materials had been planted close to the prime minister’s residence. The message claimed the devices would be detonated if the scheduled performances were not canceled.
"Large quantities of nitroglycerine explosives have been placed around the Australian Prime Minister's Lodge, located on Adelaide Avenue in the Deakin area of Canberra, Australia," the message said.

"If you insist on proceeding with the performance, then the Prime Minister's Lodge will be blown into ruins and blood will flow like a river."

According to reports, the threat was forwarded the same day to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), which immediately initiated security procedures.

Albanese was moved to a separate secure location for several hours while officers conducted a detailed inspection of the property. Following the sweep, officials concluded there was no credible danger.

"A thorough search of a protection establishment was undertaken, and nothing suspicious was located," the AFP said in a statement.

Meanwhile, authorities in Beijing reiterated their stance against violence. It was stated that China "consistently opposes all forms of violent attacks."

In additional remarks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning commented on the dance company, saying: "It must be pointed out that the so-called Shen Yun performance is not a normal cultural activity at all, but a political tool used by the Falun Gong organization to spread cult information and amass wealth," according to official statements.
